Plains dragons, like desert dragons are medium-sized soaring dragons, active primarily at dawn and dusk. Plains dragons ride thermals coming off the high red rock cliffs, hovering above the valleys, with their light-coloured belly scales and thin membranous wings helping to camouflage the creatures against the sky. Slow-growing and slow-metabolizing, a single large animal kill can leave a plains dragon well-fed and comfortable (though often too heavy to fly) for weeks.
