Overcoming by Karen Sim

Medium: Graphite on paper.

A young child must face his fear and embrace compassion. The creatures in these swamplands love the giant bloodworms that the acolytes bring, but can turn on the young ones and devour them instead just as easily. To win the monsters’ trust and acceptance, to become a good neighbour and cohabitant, the child must step into the swamplands with openness and a calm resignation; it is by no means a sure path to success, and the risks are very real. Peace, trust, and coexistence are always worth the risk, and must be worth the sacrifice as well.
