CONCEPT ART

My shapeshifter pieces are an exploration of animal study, gestural study, and emotional expression. I use my shapeshifters to explore themes of struggle, pain, change, and identity.

My illustrative work touches on a variety of themes, mostly concerned with expressing emotion and creating compassion. Please check out each piece for a little storytelling.

Some of these creature studies are available as prints, if one of these beasties catches your eye and your heart- be sure to check out the store for what’s in stock.

ORIGINAL CREATURE DESIGN

My creatures are the primary feature of my personal world building, and they are designed to inhabit an imaginary space where they could, in fact, intersect and interact with humans and our artificial environment as well. I have included brief descriptions and data on each of the selected creatures below. The most important quality of creature design, to me, is how each creature has its own agency and personality within the world it inhabits.

MYTHICAL MONSTERS & CRYPTIDS

This gallery hosts a combination of my interpretations of traditional creatures from folklore, and my own collection of custom monsters and dragons.

I have always been very particular about my dragon designs, preferring smaller body size and larger wing area, as well as more avian physiology for lightness and elegance. I have created my dragons as a natural living part of the ecosystem of our world, and imagine that they would be quite at home in the wild spaces around my home.

Monsters are aberrations- creatures that defy the logic of the world they inhabit- and they typically reflect the fears, prejudices, and deeper psychologies of society. Some of my monsters are a playful take on everyday frustrations and annoyances. Others are meant to be more serious and confronting, touching the tender parts of our empathy. We are the origin of all monsters, historical, cultural, and personal, making them reflection as much as projection.
